What is the Biospirals Method?
The Biospirals Method Qigong is a complete and living system — born in Venice in 1984 through the long and patient research of Master Franco Mescola, founder of the Taiji Research Centre, who spent decades harmonising the thousand-year-old wisdom of Eastern tradition with the discoveries of Western science. At its heart is the spiral — the shape that governs galaxies, seashells, and the DNA within every cell of your body. Through images, breathing, and movements inspired by this fundamental intelligence of the cosmos, the practice loosens and awakens the body's connective-fascial system — freeing the pathways through which Qi flows and reconnecting you to the abundant forces of the Earth and the heavens.

About The Founder of Biospirals Method Qigong
Master Franco Mescola (1938-2014)
Master Franco Mescola was a Venetian Tai Chi master, researcher, and the founder of the Biospirals® Method that Gillian teaches today.
Born in Venice, Franco began his martial arts journey in 1960, studying with Japanese masters before meeting Master Chang Dsu Yao in 1975—a pivotal encounter that shifted his focus entirely to internal arts. He became Master Chang's disciple and collaborator, founding the Tai Chi Research Center in 1985 with his teacher's blessing, which later evolved into the CRT Association and Instructor Training School.
For nearly thirty years, Franco dedicated himself to deep research in Tai Chi and Qigong, studying with masters across Africa, India, China, and Mongolia. He brought these practices into unconventional spaces—teaching at the Venice Biennale Dance Academy, collaborating with New York's Actors Studio, working with oncology patients, and guiding inmates in Venice Prison.
In 2002, after decades of exploration, he synthesized his understanding into the Biospirals® Method—a revolutionary approach to movement based on the body's natural spiral patterns and fascial intelligence. This method, along with his Xuan Chuan form, became the foundation of what is now taught worldwide.
Known affectionately as "Stevenson" or "Tusitala" (Polynesian for "storyteller"), Franco was also a writer, poet, and painter whose art was exhibited throughout Venice and internationally. His legacy lives on through certified instructors like Gillian Reid, who continue to share his profound gift of spiral movement and somatic wisdom.
